Plan the Perfect White-Water Rafting Trip

White-Water rafting is the perfect outdoor activity for families and thrill seekers alike. No matter what your skill level may be, there are a wide range of rafting experiences available that will ensure you have a safe and enjoyable time on the water.

For those who are planning an upcoming white-water rafting trip, there are several things to consider to have a truly unique and thrilling experience.

Whitewater Rafting Trip

Know your party’s experience level

Knowing the experience level of your party will help you determine the class of rapids to choose. If it’s your party’s first time in white-water, we suggest Class I or Class II rapids, as they offer only a few occasional rapids and slight maneuvering. If you have someone in your party that is more experienced, they should be able to guide you through Class II, or even Class III rapids without any issues.

Class IV and V rapids should be reserved for more seasoned white-water rafters only, as you may face large objects, fast currents, strong rapids and big waves. There are Class VI rapids, which are a bit rare, and should only be attempted by the most experienced rafters.

Choose a reputable rafting company

If you’re unsure as to which rapids are best for your party, we suggest speaking with a local rafting company. A reputable rafting team will tell you which rapids are best for your skillset and can pick out an experience that your family will enjoy.

They know the waters better than anyone, as they are the ones guiding the trips on a daily basis. They can even join you in your raft for your trip on the water if you’re uncomfortable.

Consider the time of year

Although it’s not always thought of, the time of year in which you will be white-water rafting will affect your experience. Those planning a trip for the spring or early summer should note that the water will be colder. This means you should dress appropriately, either with a wetsuit, drysuit, or warm clothing to keep you comfortable during your excursion. This is the best time of year for many thrill-seeking rafters, as snow will be melting, and faster waters will typically be seen.

We suggest summer rafting for beginners or novices, as the waters will be warmer and the rapids will be milder, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience.
