Loren Lavine is an enrolled member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe in Northern California. She studied art and journalism at Humboldt State University where she studied photography and jewelry design. Loren comes from a long line of artists as she is a relative to famous New Mexican potter Maria Martinez. \"I learned to weave from my grandmother and I remember watching my mom bead on the loom. I was just tall enough to look over the table and see the design come to life after each stroke of the needle. It was like magic to me,\" said Loren. The artist uses many types of media including metals, beads, basketry, acrylic on canvas, sculpture, textiles and has recently collaborated with a fellow artist to design a line of handbags. \"My mind is constantly designing something,\" said Loren. \"Whether it be a room or a shoe, the designer in my stays in motion. I paint what I dream and I take no credit for the idea, it just comes through me, to me. As for my photography, I love color, texture and balancing lines and shapes.\" Tesoro (treasure) showcases her recent trip to northern Italy, specifically the regions of Venice, Milan, Padua, Vicenza, and Verona. \"Everywhere you look there is beauty,\" said the artist of Italy. While displaying her work in Italy, a well established gallery, Arte Luna, just outside of Venice, made a large purchase of her jewelry designs and has had a wonderful reception with their clients who are all asking for more. \"I plan to return to Italy this spring and take with me more and unique designs to share with the people there. Everything is art to the Italian people; their food, their drink, their clothing -- it\'s a way of life.\" My favorite part of Italy was the architecture and my favorite place so far is Venice. I am excited to share with everyone my experience of this treasure that I believe everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Thanks for your interest and your compliments.
